These aqua and white colour block baskets are ethically produced in three handy sizes, woven from ethically sourced sisal grass by artisan women in rural Kenya. These baskets will live many colourful lives in your home over the years: use yours for keeping jewellery, toiletries and stationery organised, or fill yours with bread or fruit, dried flowers, children’s toys, remote controls, rugs, throws, gloves and slippers. These colour block baskets make handy desk tidies, lovely toy baskets and perfect woven planters and plant pots for your houseplants. They also make for thoughtful new home gifts for those who favour ethical interiors. Wherever you use your new turquoise colour block basket it is sure to bring purpose and beauty to the space.
Basket weaving within a group enables women to support their families for the first time in their lives with a flexible income in the dry seasons, where farming becomes an unsustainable income stream. These women are highly skilled at creating an array of colours through scrupulous hand dyeing. Basket weaving is in these women’s blood: all have woven from a young age and will continue to pass this precious legacy on to future generations – all thanks to your purchases.
